Couple of announcements from the LT

Alcohol - They would like to reinforce that absolutely no-one under the age of 18 should be drinking in the beer tent or other ic bar at the Gathering. This is against the law and if the authorities saw this they would shut all the bars down and we'd have a tea-total event.

First aid. Anyone, with the relevant certificate, who is willing to help at first aid for a time would be gratefully received. I believe some mention of payment / thank you was made - but please confirm that with Kate.

Also anyone who is qualified but doesn't want to help, could you please let first aid know anyway. This is because if there is an incident in camp then anyone not qualified, and identified as such (ie beforehand with certificate) will be asked to move out of the way.

Finally if there is an incident in the camp could everyone please stay back and let the first aiders do their job. It's much easier for them if there aren't people standing around, no matter how well meaning they are.

Thank you for your attention.

Sorry - I didn't make it clear. Yes kids are allowed in the bar as long as they drink soft drinks.

Jan is the relevant certificate a First Aider certificate, or a First Aid at Work Certificate.

I have the former, but not yet the latter...

Thanks Jan for posting these points :)

You might be interested in covering linears, helping large battles (a change from monstering?), helping in the first aid post itself... You might want to do a bit to help us out... or even crew whole events (especially in 2005).

We are interested in people with hands on experience and people who want to get experience.

If you have a first aid qualification of some kind (preferably First Aid at Work or higher - but we are flexible) and can offer anything from a few hours to entire events - then we would like to hear from you :) You can come and chat to Dave (days) and Rohan (nights) at the First Aid post at the G, or ask me questions here.

I helped out a little last year with First Aid, but not pre-arranged, and not wearing a yellow tabard or anything.

I am a registered nurse, although I don't have a valid first aid certificate any more, is that any help?

Hi,

im a first aid instructor and have been for the past 7yrs.
Do you need to bring your certificate with you to help and how does the first aider role work at the gathering?

As in do you have to hang about OOC or can you continue IC but if something unfortunate happens do you simply apply your first aid.

Cheers

Glenn

Glenn I think you will need to bring your certificate 'cos it needs to be checked and photocopied before you become an 'official' First Aider for the event

As for being IC or OOC well it depends where you are. At the HG when I was in the First Aid tent I was OOC but when wandering about the camp with my First Aid Kit I was IC.

It shouldn't really matter 'cos if anyone gets hurt everything stops anyway

There are First Aid kits in the first Aid tent once you register as a First Aider you get given one for the event

It's great we have so many volunteers. I know the staff in first aid will really appreciate it.

Just remember your certificates and to check in with First aid when you get there.

Thanks again.

Boz - I'm not sure about the being a nurse thing! So am I (and before anyone comments that I'm a psychy nurse - I'm also an RGN !!) but I think it would probably depend on what area you work in as to whether it would apply. (it doesn't for me any more - so I leave it to those with certificates!)

Consult with Kate is the best answer I think!

Glenn - you can either just be someone who we know will help if someone falls at your feet, at which point you would go OOC to deal with it, or you can choose to spend some time OOC either helping provide first aid cover at the first aid post, on a linear or in a big mosh. We have linears and moshes all thru the weekend, so lots fo chances for anyone to help.

Iin the same way we need extra monsters to have a big mosh, we also can need extra first aiders to go and be "on hand" watching the fun.

Boz - as Jan said, Nurses don't need to have first aid at work too, just bring some proof you are an RGN/whatever.

Anyone who has any queries about helping out - do PM me, or come down with some certificates and have a chat to Dave/Rohan/me (tho you will probably find me easiest at Game Control) at the First Aid post from Thursday onwards - we will be happy to answer any queries you have, and you can see if you would like to help out.

All help is very gratefully accepted - and there is even free tea and coffee :)
