Hi I am new to LARP and plan to go to the Lorien Trust Gathering this year, after looking around the factions The Wolf Faction deffinately feels best to suit me.

I have already come up with a character, the young elf Naralyn Nightstar, or Alatáriël Eledhwen in the Elven Tounge.
Though I'm still trying to finalise CS and OS, I have a fairly good idea on what I want to take.

Just hoping to make a lot of friends in August, or maybe even before I get there.

Welcome to the Wolves, the best faction!

Don't be afraid to ask questions, we've all been new.

The two most important rules to remember are:
Have fun!!! (very, very important)
Pet the puppies

Yeah, everyone is very helpful and welcoming, (normally trying to recruit the newbies) but always nice and friendly besides

We always welcome newcomers and it doesnt take very long to be able to spot the people you need to know :)

You'll be given a warm welcome, lots of help and advice and probably a lot of alcohol.... We really are a friendly bunch, as long as you are on the right end of the sword

So, advice;-

If you value your liver, don't drink with the NDM...

Don't go into the Shrine of Fenris, you will be assimilated....

If somebody says "Pet the puppy", take a good look at the puppy first, especially if the full moon is up....

Stoats are nice people, and not at all dodgy....

EGG!!!....

And watch out for Killian of the Wanderers. He will steal you.

Though actually being stolen by the Wanderers is pretty good :)

Well I shall look forward to all of that, and to meeting everyone.
Was also wondering what everyone thought of this for a set up for Naralyn
CS
Healing 4
Body Development 4
Light Armour 2
Ambidexterity 2
Power 2
Cartography 1
Contribute 1
OS
Herb Lore 10
+4 Spell Cards 10
Sleepless Chanting 20
Revive 10

If you drop the Body Dev to get Healing 2, and drop Catography to upgrade to Medium Armour you will have the same amount of hits but you will have more power to use and a larger spell list to work from.

Having 20 Spell Cards to work with as a new player is rather nice and allows you to fix more players, Contribute is always a good skill to have as you are invaluable to Ritual teams.

Herb Lore is good, you get things.
+4 Spell cards is fantastic, 10 OSPs for 4 extra cards.
Sleepless Chanting... Personally I have never encountered people sleeping healers, generally if someone wants to stop a healer from doing their job they will knock you out at the very least.
Revive, what can I say you need this skill as a healer.

Hi and Welcome to the wolves, you will find that we are all a lovely bunch of people and very welcoming to newbies if you have a problem you could ask any of us :)

In terms of your CS I would take on board what has been said - Kenna of the Bumble bee's is the high healer so would be a good person to get to know but any healer will help you should you need it.

I am a healer/incantor myself so will also be able to help, I should be quite easy to spot at the gathering as I will have a small bumble shaped child running around and have a small baby either attached to me or in a pram. The Bumble bee tent is also quite good for looking for Kenna as we may have some twinkling of an idea as to where she might be.

As already mentioned Contribute is fantastic you will find that alot of people will be asking for you especially if you really want to be active in contributing it's good fun when you get into a good team :)

See you at the event and remember any questions no matter how daft you might think that they are ge thtem asked :)

Light vs. Medium armour depends on what physrep costume one has.

Armour Mastery is a New Player Package option. 20 OSPs but more likely to matter than Sleepless Chanting.

One point of AV will soak that one Crush, 2 body hits will keep you up after that one Through.
All depends, do you usually take just one Through or one Crush if you take any?

In my experience from this past game, you have picked the nicest bunch of people to join on the field. Welcome!

I was one of a group of 4 new players, and 3 of them made heal-y types, so I got to hear lots of advice on this... I strongly recommend Heal 2, not just 1. As people pointed out, Sleepless isn't much use at all. Armour mastery will serve you better. Herb Lore = YES, lots... I am tempted to take it, and I'm a fighter-troll...

But in the end, pick what you think you'll enjoy using. And if you hate what you have, it doesn't matter, the people at Game Control are very nice about letting you shift things around as a new player.

I also recommend for new players go and monster! It helps you learn the game and you don't have to worry about character death. I monstered a sanctioned before I went to the mainlines. It taught me loads about casting and fighting. Join in the monster slots!

heal 2 is big and clever as it gives 8 more spell cards and a bigger better spell list

Cartography isnt one ive seen a lot use, most take up throwing instead

Contribute is clever, and like has been said, is great for rituals and if you get into them regular, with a decent team, can earn some decent gold

Armour mastery is clever, and would give you more hits than most healer-y types who are genrally one hit squishies (that we love. never forget that :P )

I don't remember ever being paid for a ritual - maybe i'm missing a trick here or maybe i'm just to nice :) And besides you like being able to pick up squishables makes life much more fun and you feel less bad :)

Light armour, bod-dev. Hmmm.
Can I have her please? :D A healer is always good for suicide missions.- Oups, did I say that out loud? We never do anything dangerous, honest.

On a more serious note that looks a good setup.

More power is always good!!! Especially towards the evening when most power has been burnt up.
Cartography just lets you pick up a map from Games Control, or copy others that you find. I have it and never really done anything with it.

I'd keep the bod-dev it lets you survive a blast, or crush which is always good.
Maybe drop the Sleepless Chanting (as others have said, people just hit healers when they want them to stop. :)) and take Armour Mastery instead, this effectively gives you medium armour and doesn't hinder your skills, as casting in medium is a problem. Not certain if that effects Healers as they're all touch spells?

Remember that you don't have to stay with these stats. You can change them again next year if you like. You can't change the OS as you loose those if you do, but the CS you can.

I used to seriously love Cartography from a roleplay POV.
It is pretty much only good for Research, now, IMnefrHO :(
I sold out for MAOR POWAH!!!

hiya,
Welcome to the Wolves, the friendliest faction around! Me and Orvendr(Vee)(Linda) were newbies this year and everyone has been soooooo helpful and patient with all of our questions. My character is developing into an archer and Vee is going down the touchy healy route.
Advice.....Get out there and enjoy yourself. The more you put into it the more you'll get out of it, go monstering because it's a great way to get to know the system, plus you get paid (ic money). :D Do loads of gate duty, it's a great way to get to know the faction and also to let people get to know you.Have a bimble round the varioous groups within the faction, when you find a group you like ask them are they recruiting. Look for the group with the big red cross, they adopted us this event and they are an amazing bunch of people. Also, getting in-character is a must.
