As I am a little unclear on a point on here I would like to ask a question......

Bearing in mind that the LT, as far as I understand it, do not have 'downtime', can I ask if all the ic reports of what has happenend at events are;

a) to be taken that we have read a paper report of this or overheard it, or
b) ignored for use on the field.

As I am now starting to gain information on the field and know some of what has gone on, I do not want to 'cheat' by filling in the gaps from these posts.

Please could someone clarify.

Thank you.

You are correct. There is no downtime roleplaying, which means you can't proactively do things. ie Lead an army and retake a castle.

You can share information that you find out as if you've read something on paper.

If you treat it in the same way that you would if you'd met up with your mates to discuss the event and they said, "Oh, my character would tell you this" and you can't go too far wrong. :)

The way I tend to do it, if it's something that my character would be likely to find out by bumping into someody on his travels, or pick up as a rumour in a bar somewhere, or get from an official report, then I keep it. (Obviously, as I don't have rumour monger or far travelled etc. this has its limits). If it's something that I think should be FOIC, then I pretend ignorance and roleplay getting the info when we're IC...

In other words, play it by ear and act in good faith

Much as above, you can say all sorts of things in a consensual roleplay way.
Only characters of players can consent of course, not any other imaginary character.
Unless it is worth stitching you up at an event.... Allegedly

IMHO there is one exception to all the above, PVP.

Person X over hears a conversation off the field where Person Y claims that person Z is going to kill Person A
Person X then tells all their mates on the field IC.

This is generally known as IC/OC crossover, and is frowned upon. you don't know if Person Y made the discovery IC or OC, you don't even know if the claim is true.

The line I take is that if it's even slightly related to PvP then unless I heard it on the field then I don't know.

Completely agree with Mark here and on a personal level, if I find out something OC, i will actively try to avoid finding out IC to prevent mixing my knowledge.

The same goes for plot having been a part of the plot team. Then again it helps being the sort of character that just hits what he is told
