As one of the few Ganglandir who wear chainmail, the jump test is not that much of a problem but a stray piece catching the light can ruin your whole day, does armour still count if it is covered? It still fairly obvious to touch and can be easily and quickly demonstrated to a ref on request but can I throw a shirt over it to hide the tell tale glare?

I do that every so often. If a ref or marshal has a query then they might pull you to one side after an encounter and ask how you were absorbing crushes but as long as you can show them the armour underneath then all is well.

(i used to have lots of issues when i would fight in combat with magical armour masteried mage armour for the same reason as more than a few monsters used to report an elf out there in that encounter who isn't wearning armour and who seemed to survive repeated crushings.)

The only exception would be if you had lammied armour, in which case the lammie must be visible, thus some amount of the armour it is attached to must show.

I hate to disagree with you DM as it usually means I'm wrong, but the rules say "Lammies are effective even if not visible, although they must always be easily accessible should a Marshall or Referee ask to see them" which is why I put my armour lammies towards the top of the chest and wear my light leather over it, preventing it "flapping about" by pressing it onto my body but being easily accessible by loosening 1 buckle and bending my leather back.

It is a potentially grey area.
The ref notes clarification is "Items that are visible should display their lammy as much as is practical".

If you manage to cover all your armour, then you can cover the lammie. If a part of the item can be seen then the lammie should be seen, as it is a part of a thing which "looks special"

I think with all the heavies out there doing good honest 'thumpit-monkey' work any funky heavy armour will be wasted on a ganglandir, who lets be frank isn't trying to get hit at all, so flashing my lammie is the least of my worries!
