Hi there,

I'm just wondering how one goes about procuring a boat within the system. Obviously it's not something I'm going to have phys repped but I feel a bit dodgy about the idea of walking around the game saying I'm the captain of a boat when it's not sanctioned by God...

So basically what I want to know is this. Can I simply decide my character has a boat or do I have to buy/obtain one from someone in plot team/someone with guild rank etc...?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Rhea

I’ve heard many a player over the years say they have boats, castles, caravans… all sorts of things and because there is no economic system in the LT game world and rarely will the health and safety policies operated allow any player to go anywhere near water whilst LARPing. If your boat is small and goes from A to B without doing anything special then I would think you and your crew can have one to travel about in and do some minor trading. It just can’t go blockade ports, commit actual piracy or acts of war without plot team / LT plot permission.

However… having said that… PM incoming soon that I hope you might find more… interesting.

James

The Maelstrom Falcon is a fast ship... in case you never heard of it.

Captain Solitaire's her master and, if you can find him, maybe you can hire his services... for a generous fee! :P

Thanks very much to the both of you for your quick responses.

I was seeking something a bit more beefy than a transport/trading vessel. I have an armourer who is willing to use some of his abilities to pimp my ride, so to speak, and so what is it that I need to do? Go to God with a kickass background for my character involving me stealing/buying/doing whatever it takes to get a boat or do I just show up there with sweeties and ask nicely with puppy eyes? Lol!

Seriously though, any more in depth help would be appreciated.

You could speak to the plot4 of a faction, most maintain a navy and I'm sure they don't have a named captain of every vessel. It might even get some extra plot thrown your way.

It just can’t go blockade ports, commit actual piracy or acts of war without plot team / LT plot permission.
This is the main issue. If it is "consesual roleplaying" then you tend to just have it.
e.g. Jax-Ur has an international business and a merchant fleet.
Or rather his family do, and he has use of them now and again.
I made all this up. But it's generally excepted because all it does is add flavour with no non-consensual in-game affect.

By (non-)consensual I mean that, say I IC offer to sell you 3 tons of stone for your new house and you offer to pay me 3 gold then that is our roleplay. You may choose to actually give me 3 plastic discs or not.
You may say you'll send the money to my office, same as I may say I'll have the stone delivered on Tuesaday.
All offstage and 3 tons of vapourware building materials doesn't affect anyone.

Although I did once turn up at an early sanctioned event with three large panels of polystrene that some other players did enjoy moving about as physreps for marble slabs. Never got my 4,000 gold from the Mages Guild though. Shisters! :D

Now then, VIEW Magazine was/is a real thing in that I had sheafs of printed paper and exchanged them for plastic discs ("which all remain the property of the LT at all times anyway"(tm)) but they were only sheets of printed paper with no Rules based IC affect.

You can say you have a boat. You can say you have a nice boat. You can say "I came herre in My Boat which is moored at the jetty which is just over that big hill".

Now then (Karl, if you read this, do you remember?) someone (was it Matt Duffey?) did actually once cut an IC deal with the Wolves to buy old longships when our FMP fleet was refitted. He then got some one with an Income Skill of OS Shipwright or similar to "repair them" and ended up with something like his own 1 FMP of navy.
But that was a process of repeated Research Requests and stuff, I think....

Ah yes, FW of S also used to live in a flat he rented from Jax-Ur that he inherited from Thomas de Medici.
More made-up stuff that we enjoyed!
