Kender travel, we migrate, we wander, we meander and look.

In Cymria there is a legend around three Kenders, brothers, who went for a wander around a ship docked in a Harbour in Erin. The Ship set sail with the Kender still aboard and when the Captain discovered them he was overcome with a need to further their experiences, although as swimmers rather than sailors.

He set them off the ship somewhere off the coast of what is now called Ravenscar in Southern Cymria, they swam their way ashore and beheld their new home. The Brothers were Hobb (the Eldest and cleveriest), 'Randy' Mactavish (the charming one) and Longshanks (the youngest and eagerest).

Hobb looked across the province and marvelled at the mountains.
"If I climb those I'll be able to see everything" he said.
MacTavish looked to the mist enshrouded forests in wonder.
"In there I will be able to see what is hidden." he said.
Longshanks looked to the human city that straddled the river in the distance.
"In there will be lots of Biggers to see and talk to." he said.

Each wanted to go to their place first so they decided to part ways on the beach and return in five years time to that very spot to discuss what they had seen.

Hobb, the Eldest, climbed high into the mountains until he reached the very highest and he peered down at the world. Sadly, he discovered, that everything was so far away he could barely make anything out.

So he climbed down the mountain and found a deep hole leading into Erdredja. Curious, he followed the tunnel to see where it led. He travelled down and down, going ever deeper until he heard voices echoing and he followed them to a door.

He knocked on the door soundly and a voice from inside asked him his business.
"I am a Kender and I wish to see what is beyond this door and be your friend." He said proudly.
"We are dwarves and we do not trust others this door will remain closed." Came the voice.
Hobb resolved loudly that he would remain waiting by the door until he had proven his desire to be the dwarves friend. Several days went by and eventually the dwarves relented.

Hobb lived with the Dwarves for five long years, he shortened his top knot to ease his passage through the low tunnels, he learnt to walk the dark in silence, he uncovered the secrets of brewing ale and the Dwarven tongue. He took a dwarven wife and then, one day, he realised his time amongst the dwarves was over. He and his new family went back to the surface and back to the beach.

There to wait for his brothers.

The tale of 'Randy' MacTavish (later made the Kender Ancestor of Fertility and Romance) is covered by Bardic privilege but it is unknown exactly how well versed in bardic privilege Klaus is prepared to be ...

As such this tale is only recounted on request outside of the earshot of Klaus, Robyn, and the Queen Morven.

Needless to say have five years of adventures, Randy MacTavish returned to the beach to await his brothers.

Longshanks, the youngest, took to the human road and travelled eagerly down it hoping to get his first sight of a Cymrian human. Did they look different? Did they really breed with Sheep?

He came across an old lady who was being assaulted by brigands, with barely a pause for thought, Longshanks dived in to defend the old lady. With a sharp knife in his hand he ran amongst the robbers, cutting hamstrings and stabbing groins as he went.

The brigands fled and the old lady was ever so thankful to the young Kender. Unbeknownst to the young Kender, she was a witch and blessed Longshanks saying 'that he would only die of old age'. Longshanks thought this awfully kind behaviour and continued on his way to the Human city.

When he got there he found it a place of wonderment, trays of food and trinkets where set out for you to help yourself and eventually a pair of nice young men came to escort him to a warm room with bars on the windows where he could sleep. The next morning he recieved a fine breakfast and was taken outside of the city for a walk. They stopped at a tree, put a rope around his neck and lifted him high up into the branches and left him dangly there.

Well, Longshanks had been blessed to only die of old age so he did not choke. Instead he discovered the tree was an apple tree was he ate an apple and enjoyed the view.

The next day the men returned and were shocked to be cheerifully greeted by the hanging kender, they consulted a wise man who proclaimed that the 'Kender was too light to hang properly' so they tied rocks to his feet.

The next day, Longshanks asked if he could be moved to another branch as he was running low on apples and the men added more stones to his feet. Weeks went by and each day the men brought more stones and rocks until one day Longshanks merely lifted onto his tip toes and removed the noose from his neck.
Freed he walked very slowly away, until he stopped and removed the ropes tying the stones to his feet.

He learnt many interesting things about how Biggers treat Kender and how to work around all those silly rules that people use. After five years he returned to the beach to await his brothers.

The three Brothers became the start of the original three Cymrian Kender households, the Hobbs, MacTavishes and the Longshanks.

Hobb was made the Kender Ancestor of Stealth and Brewery, his sign is that of an owl carrying a miner's lantern for he went into the dark places looking for wisdom.

Randy Mactavish was made the Kender Ancestor of Fertility and Romance, his sign is a rabbit bearing a long femur for reasons that are obvious once explained.

Longshanks became the Kender Ancestor of Human Cities and Silly Rule Evasion, his sign is an apple held in a noose.
