There is a feature whereby you character name is stored with each post independant of your current character details.

Whenever you change your character details, the new name is added to the list. The previous names are still available, should it be required to use such.

This is for two main reasons;

- to save people needing to create new accounts in order when they have new characters so as not to have the name change on all the IC posts their previous character made. Available names appear on a pulldown list on posting pages for IC forums. Even if there is only one choice.

- to allow various plot folk to post as different plot persona

Note that there is not an ice sphere's chance in Niflheim of there being avatars and signatures and certainly not group membership to go with this multiple identity thing!!!

Should any of this new code, which appears to work okay, have some strange glitch, let me know here.

Ok, I have found a problem with the recent changes to the IC names.

I can't post.

I get, "Sorry, but this username has already been taken" whenever I try to post.

I am guessing this is because my *character name* is the same as someone else's *username* ?

Character name Taradis Castrin Einior has Raven as his username.

Don't want to go into character background on here, but that's specifically not an option, though I suppose I could use some sort of title instead. Hmmm.

I know I can find a workaround, was posting here to let DM know, as may get same thing happen to others in the future.

Yeah, it's all part of some vexing little glitches that come from it validating the post name as username.
Can't be real username, can't be a group name.
And Peacock has no chance with all them apostrophes.
It's something I need to look at in detail when I have time (not onsite for work or "on site" for LRP)

I think I've seening some names not shown as well.
If you see a pattern in that, let me know.

Only one apostrophe! And it's not my fault old-school Danes used to use them.

I'll see if I can find a way of spelling without annoying the code :)

I reckon you might sneak a single quote through as the & number ; form but may have to actually go " & amp ; number ; "

It's not ideal but I' just to busy with Stuff to work out a Nice Fix at the mo.

Likewise, anyone who has username that is their character name (which the sign-up does ask you not to do!) may have issues.

Adding a dot to the end of your character name in My Character is a work around.

Raven was his old character, he died at the G2006, well, went missing anyway.

Just a helpful reminder to those who's IC name isn't showing, should they want it to.

Bump. As there seem to be several people in such a position.

The new website seems to be overly vicious with Not Liking character names for IC posts.
I'll be looking into it.

I know there are ongoing issues with IC named posts but i thought i'd mention this in case it is of use.

My IC name appears on the Wolf only forum, but not on the General IC forum

One issue I've noticed in general is that if anyone edits their post, the "IC name" gets mangled.
Think this is the case anyway.

I didn't think we could edit our own posts ... least ways never seen the option to do so on anything other than private messages.

Hmmmm....... in all honesty, it's all in a rather convoluted part of the priginal source code and tracking it has not been a priority. It works once, why not all the time, dammit!!!

If anyone has seen a pattern to the hiccups, tell me!
